Italian freelance illustrator, Cristina Spanò’s colorful work for book and editorial assignments relies upon graphic elements and comic book-style illustration to convey bold ideas.
Spanó studied graphic design at ISIA Urbino in Italy and illustration at EINA in Barcelona, Spain. Her illustration has been published in newspapers and magazines internationally including The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Financial Times, National Geographic, Ad Age and The Wall Street Journal. Her work has also appeared on NBC News and has been featured by Bayard Press, Spanish book publisher, Bang Ediciones, Italian publishing house, Fabbri Editori and French book publisher, Éditions du Rouergue.
Spanó’s comics and illustration appear in books for children and adults distributed in the US, UK, France, Italy, Spain, and China.
Her illustration has been shown at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair Exhibition (2017) and selected by AI-AP 35 and 37 (American Illustration/American Photography). Spanó also won a merit award for her illustration in the 3×3 International Annual No. 12 (Picture Book Show) in 2015.
She lives in Barcelona where she happily creates award-winning illustration filled with actionbased characters that are reminiscent of classic comic book design.
