Boris Semeniako

Paris-based freelance illustrator, Boris Séméniako, grew up surrounded by comic strips, photo books and posters. One of his greatest inspirations are Czech and Polish posters from the 60s and 70s.

After studying art in Paris, Séméniako spent a year in the poster atelier of the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture & Design, following Zdeněk Ziegler’s teaching, a Czech poster school master.

His work combines traditional drawing with digital collage to achieve powerful images that spring from a complex and vivid imagination and singular viewpoint.

His illustrations have been published in major newspapers and magazines including Le Monde, The Boston Globe, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and The Unesco Courier. Séméniako’s work that has been selected to appear in American Illustration, Communication Arts, 3x3 magazine and Society for News Design.

His posters have been exhibited in Warsaw, Poland at the International Poster Biennale, in Slovakia at the Trnava Poster Triennial, in Mexico City at the International Poster Biennial, at the International Triennial of the Political Poster in Belgium and in Beijing Design Week. He has designed over 100 book covers and exhibited his work around the world.

Séméniako believes in the power of images to change our perception of the world. He often explores political and social justice themes in his work. His editorial illustration is known internationally for the unique vision it presents.
