Carlos Zamora
CARLOS ZAMORA is a Cuban American Designer and Illustrator. He is the current Chief Creative Officer and founder of CARTEL, a design firm specialized in illustrated branding. Before arriving to the United States in April 2006, he worked at the Publishing Department at Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana Benjamin Carrión in Quito, Ecuador; Casa de las Américas, La Gaceta de Cuba Magazine, the Alicia Alonso National Ballet Company, the Heritage Office of Havana, the Habanos S.A.
Cigar Company and the National Union of Writers and Artists in La Habana. Zamora earned his Bachelor of Arts from ISDI, the Cuban design school; heavily influenced by the Bauhaus, Russian social realism and the mid-century modern tropicalia movement. An author, design advocate and educator, he has served as President of AIGA St. Louis -the local chapter for the American Institute of Graphic Arts- the professional organization for design.
He currently serves at the Art Advisory Board for Lambert International Airport, and the Tennessee Williams Festival. His work has been published by The New York Times, Time's Magazine, the New York Observer, The Boston Globe, Advertising Age, The American Lawyer, The Wall Street Journal, Alive, and St. Louis Magazine. Recent projects include the branding of Downtown North St. Louis as a premier urban district for geospatial intelligence; a 1350 SF mural at Square’s headquarters in the former St. Louis Post Dispatch; and the Drink It All In campaign, introducing Nespresso's Cafecito de Cuba for American audiences.
