Pablo Amargo
Based in Asturias, northern Spain. With a fondness for visual paradox, urban landscape, contemporary painting and everyday occurrences, his graphic, minimalist style relies mostly upon black and white images with spot color. It’s the power of his visual idea that matters most.
Amargo has received several significant illustration awards throughout his career, most importantly, The National Spanish Award, the Golden Plaque Biennial of Illustration in Bratislava the Gráffica Award in Spain, for his contribution to the visual culture of his native country.
His book “Cats are Paradoxes” was recognized with a Gold Medal from the New York Society of Illustration, the Gold Laus in Spain, and won a Silver Award in the Art Directors Club of Europe (ADCE), the most significant award in graphic design in Europe.
In 2021 his book “Perrita Country” received another Gold Medal from the New York Society of Illustration.
Recently his book about Art and Creativity “Una forma de decirlo” was recognized with a Silver Trophy from European Design Awards and the Silver Medal from the New York Society of Illustration.
His work has been published in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Jot Down Magazine and National Geographic among others. He’s designed book covers for Random House and Penguin and posters for Paris Quartier D´été, Grand Canary Library and the International Film Festival of Gijón. He has also had his illustrated books published by publishing houses such as La Joie de Lire, Bárbara Fiore, Jot Down Books.
Amargo enjoys promoting the art of illustration, participating in conferences and sitting on committees worldwide.
