The cover she illustrated for The NYT Kids won the Print Silver medal in Features Cover Design by the Society for News Design 🌻 Thanks to the Jury and to all The New York Times Kids team for this ❤️😍 “There is a simplicity and effectiveness to this cover, particularly in how the illustration guides the viewer’s attention through the page and interacts with the type and section flag. Its use of a limited color palette, its attention to detail (including the consistency of its typography), and its overall execution make this entry more than just a children’s section. Our colleagues would be inspired as well.” I am excited to announce that Maria Corte has joined our group. Maria’s work is marked by her innovative approach to disrupting space through geometric shapes and breaking classical conventions in depicting the human body. Her unique formal exploration is complemented by a keen chromatic sensibility and meticulous application of textures. Maria’s portfolio spans various fields, including book covers, posters, press, advertising, animation, children’s and educational illustration, and a variety of personal projects. New illustration created by Maria Skliarova The Persistent. "I moved in with the man who was to become my husband on my 23rd birthday, four and a half years after we had met. During hours of conversation about what it would be like to live together—what sort of sofa we would buy, who we would invite to parties—we had never actually discussed the division of household labor. Naively, I assumed the everyday minutiae of keeping a small apartment would just fall into place. As it turned out, washing and cleaning were no problem for me, but I quickly realized cooking is a task I hate".
